Club calls on Volunteers for country racing success

Do you have a passion for harness racing, and want to contribute to outstanding country racing at the Victor Harbor Harness Racing Club?

If your answer is yes, the VHHRC is looking for volunteers to join its committee to continue country harness racing at its best.

The VHHRC has two to three race meeting annually, which attract large crowds from the Fleurieu Peninsula and across the state, and deliver a fun-filled, action-packed, entertaining race day for trainers, drivers, owners and the wider community.

The committee is a group of passionate harness racing individuals, many of which have trained and driven horses in South Australia.

The team is currently led by President Lynton Bishop, who said being on the committee was a “rewarding experience” for those involved.

“Our race days are highly regarded not just with the local community, but with trainers and drivers involved in SA’s harness racing industry,” Lynton said.

“Harness racing at Victor Harbor is unique and highly regarded, and it’s a great opportunity to get to know trainers, drivers and officials, as well as providing a great day out for spectators.”

At its Easter race day in 2019, the club attracted about 650 spectators, and supported a record number of horses.

Lynton said the committee were always looking at ways to improve and expand the Morgan Park operation.

“We have plans in the pipeline that will expand our operation at Morgan Park, and also provide more opportunities to spectators who come to our race days,” Lynton said.

“It was unfortunate we had to cancel our December race day due to the coronavirus pandemic, but we will be putting everything into our Easter Sunday races."

The highlights of the day will include the Victor Harbor Pacing Cup together with the Skyvalley Trotters Cup.

The committee meets once a month, and Lynton said anyone interested in joining the committee was welcome to attend a meeting prior to making a formal decision.
